Single and Multiplayer Space Combat Simulation. According to the info with the game, XvT was designed to be a multi-player game. Yes, it will work as a single player, but to get the most out of it you've got to play it over a modem with a friend. My regular modem partner finally got a copy. When he installed it in his 1.5 year old Pentium it wouldn't play. This game needs Direct X to work. If you don't know what that is better read up on it PRIOR to installing the game. It changed some drivers. His video and some of his prior games wouldn't work anymore. Fixed the problem by buying a new Pentium 200. Which comes first the computer or the game....

We are now playing XvT over the net. Its great. You can choose to play against or with a partner or two. There a lots of missions and exercises to keep you busy. Some of them are all but impossible. We seem to do best as wingman. Often the only way we can survive out there is to keep targeting the guy on your partner's six, and he does the same. My fighter of choice is the XWing. Fast, maneuverable with a good firepower. I can choose an Xwing and different missles for the job prior to the mission. So far we are holding our own with the Empire. Lost some, won some. The two man Melee is interesting and fun. You fly against four other teams of two in a series of sorties.

I'd say the best thing to do is get a friend to fly with and learn to protect your wingman. With ships going everywhere, stay close, keep each other alive. And don't leave a ship you are escorting alone, either. We are ready to try our hand against another team. Email me if you have a wingman and want to try your hand against another team.

Enough said. Buy it, get on the net, kill your friends in cyberspace. Battle the empire or if you like defend it from Spectral & Quicksilver and rebellion.

Technical Data

For some reason my game won't connect to the modem for a direct modemlink. Works fine over the net. You have to use the IP address of the host which means you have to type at START, RUN, "winipcfg" and a little window will come up and list your net settings. Do this before going to XvT. Go to CONFIG enter the IP address of your friend then choose join. If you still have connection problems make sure your modem is working by using another dialer program in PROGRAM , ACCESSORIES. If you are already on the net, you're ready to play Xwing vs TieFighter.
